Printing & Troubleshooting
The following info is for guidance only. Please refer to your printer manual if unsure.
Installing Ink Cartridges:
-
Install the inkjets as per instructions given in the printer manual, as each printer is different.
-
Make sure the correct pull tabs are removed before installing and ensure that the electrical contacts are not tampered with.
-
Avoid installing more than one ink at a time - if one has a recognition issue it will be easier to find.
Problem with 'chipped' cartridges - Epson & Canon:
-
Remove the newly installed ink and SWITCH OFF the printer for about 30 seconds. This will reset the printer memory
-
Check the CONTACT CHIP on the cartridge. Give it a gentle wipe with a cloth to remove any dust or dirt.
-
REINSTALL INK
Cartridges for Epson printers will be damaged if placed into the printer before the yellow tag is removed. This needs to be removed to vent the cartridge in order to release the vacuum seal (failure to do so will result in air being drawn up into the cartridge via the printheads which will stop the ink from flowing). This applies to Original & Compatible inkjets.
Problem with refilled cartridges - Canon:
-
Try holding the red button (usually called STOP, RESUME or CANCEL) until any error messages disappear, or it starts printing.
-
Alternatively try turning the printer off, taking the ink out, turning the printer back on and replacing the ink.
Problem with refilled cartridges - HP & Lexmark:
-
Problems with these types of ink are usually due to dried ink in the cartridge chambers. Unfortunately this often happens in cases where customers do not use their printers for long periods of time, or order more ink than they need and not store it in a cool, dry place.
-
Sometimes dampening a kitchen tissue with some warm water and rubbing it over where the ink comes out of the cartridge can solve this blockage problem - although be careful not to touch the electronic strips on the cartridge.
-
When dabbing the ink on a tissue, there should be a nice band of black, or 3 clear strands of colour.
-
Make sure that the electronic strips are not touched or taken off as this will ruin the cartridge.
Cleaning the Printer:
-
Head Cleaning the printer can often solve ink flowing problems and should be done regularly, regardless of using original or compatible inkjets.
-
All printers vary how to do this. Most new printers will have an option on the printer itself. On older printers, this can be accessed via the PC (CONTROL PANEL - PRINTERS & FAXES - PRINTER PROPERTIES)
-
aka. Deep clean, nozzle clean, ink maintenance
